Front End  Developer
(Isle of Wight)

Permanent, part-time position
Full-time salary circa £40,000 p/a  (pro rata)
Picture
We have a  brand new opportunity  to take on a permanent part-time role (ideally 3 days a week)  developing web services and e-commerce for this  successful brand with offices here on the Isle of Wight  and just outside the South London  area.

OVERVIEW
Leading specialists in their market, this business   is made up of a number of connected but self identifying  brands with successful retail outlets here in the UK and overseas.   In order to improve and innovate the online service  available, our client is keen to secure a skilled developer to work in house, someone with experience  working on WordPress projects , confident with  front-end management  and maintenance of  e-commerce and corporate sites.

This is  initially  designed to be a reactive role, with plenty of projects ready and waiting to be implemented and a design team working flat out with engaging content and marketing  ideas  that need practical implementation.   So to start with, we need an confident and communicative developer, who can liaise with design and brand teams to create and  implement new   features swiftly and effectively.

Once up and running it is envisaged that the Developer role will evolve, opening up opportunity for creative development of the web   services. The successful  applicant will be actively encouraged to take real ownership of the direction of the  sites moving forward. We are therefore hoping to secure an innovator, someone who keeps on top of industry trends and  pursues ongoing professional development.

TECHNICALITY
The role will require experience working with WordPress themes and plugins, however, applicants who have basic coding experience and who can develop  elements from scratch will have a distinct advantage.    Our client is keen to ensure an elegant and  intuitive user experience, simple to navigate with plenty of functionality  and of course with mobile and desktop capability.    From visual  updates to  content management and communicating with stock management systems, there is plenty to get involved with.

Key focus will be to improve and maintain web performance and availability for all  users, developing 'responsive design' sites that engage and inform whilst also delivering results in online sales.

A background in professional web development will be essential, either  with a substantial portfolio of freelance projects or as an in house developer for  one key brand,  to be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate   a sound understanding  of the development process from initial design consultation through to implementation and  management.

Along with WordPress experience, we are ideally looking for experience with debugging tools, a sound understanding of SEO and analytics and preferably  programming ability, in any of the following CSS, HTML, PHP, JavaScript, MySQL  and  jQuery.

THE PACKAGE
This role could comfortably sit alongside other projects, however our client is clear that this will not be a working from home position, and applicants must be prepared to commit to 3 days minimum  per week  in the business offices either  in Surrey or here on the Isle of Wight.   Long term, there may be the opportunity to increase to a five day week if desired.

With a full-time salary  of up to £40,000  allocated to this role, it is likely the successful applicant will initially  earn  circa £24,000 p/a based on a 3 day working week from this  project.   Along with this competitive remuneration package, our client can offer a secure long term future, within a small but dedicated team of professionals dedicated to ensuring all staff are able to find a rewarding work life balance.
